“This is one of many Corporate Social Responsibility programs we have lined up for this year that focuses on improving the quality of education, especially to those in rural areas”, said Dato’ Mohd Hilmey Mohd Taib, HeiTech’s Executive Chairman. “This is our first (1st) year in organizing such a program. Our collaboration with Chenor Cluster has certainly paved the way for these kids to confidently converse in English while at the same time giving them the necessary tools and know-how to use it in their daily conversation,” he added.
Themed “We are 1”; the program stresses the importance on the value of friendship and working together as the critical essence in achieving the 1Malaysia spirit. According to Dato’ Mohd Hilmey, more than 150 children have benefited from the program which was held during the recent school holidays. “Our aim at organising this camp was not only to help students improve their English but also to help them prepare for the upcoming UPSR finals this year”, he urged. He also added that this platform could be used to inspire and instil good morale values in line with the spirit of 1Malaysia.
The program was divided into 6 modules that would address key areas such as speaking, listening and writing. As in any other programme, the first module was aimed at making the children comfortable with their environment through ice breaking activities. This was then followed by the basic usage of the English language through simple conversations. The third and fourth module centred on language exploration, giving emphasis on how fun reading can be and vocabulary enrichment. Participants were then treated with a “Language Treasure Hunt” activity that became an instant hit with the children followed by speaking skills through vocabulary enrichment. The camp saw the children undertake various tasks, which included reading, story telling, working in groups, finding hidden treasures as well as writing essays.
